Freeze “Blue”: 1

Feeling confident and motivated by yesterday’s win over the Montclair Blues, the Blizzard Squirt B fought for another win today over the Freeze Squirt B “Blue” team at Aspen Ice in Randolph. Some of the Squirt “A” players made the journey to Randolph to support their fellow Blizzard team including Tyler Lapshanski and Timothy Drevitch!

During period one, it seemed to be a pretty evenly-matched game, but our boys worked their systems to finish this period with a 1-0 lead. Highlights in period one included great defense from Joey Rocco, Ben Constantinides, Luke Caddo and Patrick Garvey. On the offensive side, Tyler Pratt took a hit into the boards and sprang right back into the game, resulting in a penalty for the Freeze. Nice shots on goal from Kevin Drevitch and Matt Koop, the second of which resulted in a goal for Blizzard! Great job, Matt!!

During period 2, the boys kept fighting hard offensively and defensively. Andrew LeFurge made a terrific shot on goal and then tried to rebound it in again. The Freeze goalie got lucky that time, but then Tyler Pratt fought hard for it, shot on goal and then Kevin Drevitch rebounded the puck right in for a 2-0 Blizzard lead! More terrific saves by our stellar goalie, Garret Stenberg led us into period 3 with hopes for a shut-out win.

Period 3 opened with a great shot on goal from Ryan Hille and a beautiful stop from Dean Scolavino as well as more solid defense work from the Ben Constantinides/Luke Caddo team-awesome size and strength!!! But the Freeze fought hard too and halfway through period 3 they brought the score to 2-1. Soon after Matt Koop took a hard hit and Sam Russell, showing great team spirit, skated right over to Matt to make sure he was OK! Towards the end of the period, Freeze pulled its goalie but to no avail..the final score: 2-1 Blizzard! Great work, boys!!!

During period 2 the excitement rose as Joey Rocco and Matt Koop both made great stops and then a gorgeous shot on goal by Kevin Drevitch brought us to a 2-1 lead with an assist from Ryan Hille! Ben Constantinides played some great defense along with Patrick Garvey and Luke Caddo and Joey Rocco keeping us in the lead even when we had a penalty! Garret Stenberg, showing his great baseball catching skills, easily caught several of the 8 Blues shots on goal right into his glove!!

In period 3, the boys were not complacent about their 2 to 1 lead and continued the fight for two more goals!! Joey Rocco had some terrific puck handling to bring the puck down in the offensive zone and took a great shot on goal! Andrew Lefurge got another shot on goal and then soon, Kevin Drevitch got a 3^rd goal for Blizzard with the help of Joey Rocco! Tyler Pratt played his position well and skated hard helping to keep the puck in the offensive zone. Dean Scolavino took a big hit but got right back into the game while fighting for the puck in the offensive zone. Then, with about 5 minutes left to the game with Blizzard leading by 2, Sam Russell got it in the goal again with an assist by Matt Koop!! Once again, our big and strong defensemen, Ben Constantinides, Luke Caddo, Joey Rocco and Patrick Garvey helped out our stellar goalie, Garret Stenberg to deflect any more goals for the Blues!! What a great game! Terrific job, boys!
